Crappy picture, but when the actual game is out, I’ll update this with some in-game screenshots. His eye is close enough to purple – that’s a really cool feature that you can make your character one eyed! And you can even select which eye. I like it. This is one of the most accurate versions of Mont I’ve been able to make in a game – although I’ll admit I didn’t really spend that long working on the facial structure and all that. Thanks to the sucky camera pic, you can’t really see that his skin is a lot darker than Erthus’s.
His eyes are green, although you can’t really tell from this. Also, you can’t create the moniker – you simply choose from a list of pre-made names. I assume that is for online, to stop people calling their pawn something like DICKMUNCHING ANUSTROLL THE 19TH SEMEN-DEMON FROM SWEDEN – which is a pity, because that is what I wanted to call Frahlo. Uh, anyway. I am rather pleased with how they came out. Even if Erthus isn’t quite as ugly as he should be!
Dragon’s Dogma is a pretty fun game, from the demo. I’m looking forwards to playing the retail copy when it lands in a few days. For those of you who don’t know, you create your player character as in most RPGs, but you also create a “pawn” – your loyal follower and so forth. You can have up to three pawns, but you can only “create” one of them, the other two, you have to hire/find in the world. It’s a pretty cool mechanic, and I obviously made Montciel and Erthus, as they are my go-to guys for this sort of fantasy world. Some people will go “pfft why not make a mage pawn” but I pfft at their pffts because Mont and Erthus have been taking names since 2005.
Y’know. If I wanted to be 100% accurate, I’d make Erthus a Warrior and Mont a Mystic Knight, but I’m sticking with ranger-Mont. Erthus is going to be a Warrior, obviously, but Mont will be either a Magick Archer or a Ranger. There’s no way to make a character that uses 2h swords + bows, sadly, but what’cha gonna do?
The nine classes are:
- Fighter (sword/shield)
- Strider (daggers/shortbow)
- Mage (staff)
- Warrior (2h sword/warhammer)
- Ranger (daggers/longbow)
- Sorcerer (staff)
- Mystic Knight (sword/mace/magic shield)
- Magick Archer (daggers/magic bow/staff)
- Assassin (sword/daggers/shortbow/shield)
I plan on going Ranger/Magick Archer, Warrior and then two uh… mages. One for offence, one for support + healing. Although apparently it’s kind of hilarious if you go with four mages or four bow-users. I might have to try that, at some point.
Also, when the game comes out, y’all should hire my Erthus pawn (Erthon) Add me as a friend on XBL and hire that bro out – he won’t let you down. I’ll make sure he’s outfitted with an absurdly powerful 2h sword so he can destroy those traitors who killed your lord.
