Apa daba doo!

6 08 2008

I’m running out of ideas for update titles. Oh well.

So..birthday happened, it was alright. Few relatives sent me some cheques, nothing fancy, like £20 or £50, then I opened the xbox hueg card from my Uncle (technically my Aunt’s boyfriend, not my fault they haven’t got married after 20+ years).. and  there’s a cheque for £500 in it. Well, I was heartily suprised.

Keep in mind this is coming from the man who owns his own plane, a mercedes LUXURYYYY van (his work vehicle) some motorbike and a Dodge er… I dunno what it’s called, a REALLY FUCKING LOUD Dodge car that looks pretty awesome. So yeah, I guess it’s not really that suprising, but damn, my favourite Uncle for sure. (My other Uncle was MEGARICH too, but he died some years back).

Sigh, why did my parents have to be an office worker and a building surveyor.. why not a celebrity chauffeur and a manager of his own company. Oh well! ..Perhaps I should see how to get into the chauffeur business..

So, what did I get and what did I do for my birthday, you scream? Despite what I SAID not one post ago, I did end up going out and drinking, although I’ll note that I didn’t drink much, because as I said, I somewhat value my organs and my brain cells, plus.. it plain doesn’t taste good. So yeah, my friend from Weymouth (one of them, I know two people thar) baked me a……………..cake, I suppose you could call it, and she insisted that I eat it, even if she had apparently used it as a punching bag as it was more squashed than a bulldogs face. So yeah, It wasn’t really that fun or amazing, but I’ll certainly remember it, unlike my 17th and 15th, I literally remember nothing of those.

The day before, however, I went to see “The Dark Knight”, the new Batman film, indeed.. I was.. impressed, oddly, impressed by a superhero movie. If you have been reading this blog for any amount of time, you would know that I’m somewhat hard to impress by movies. Especially superhero movies.

Now, I won’t say it was OMGAMAZING, but it certainly was watchable, I’ll put a review in the review section at some point, for now I’ll summarize. To be frank, I’ve never been a fan of superheroes or their movies. Blade (1998 ) and The Punisher (2004?) as well as Spiderman (2002?) are exceptions, now, maybe it’s because they don’t have such moronic outfits but whatever. So.. The Dark Knight, oh right, there might be spoilers so.. read at your peril. First off, Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker was.. most impressive. I can’t say I know what to compare it to as I know nothing of The Joker’s character, many say Jack Nicholson (or however you spell his name) did it best.. but I’ve not seen that movie, or at least I don’t remember it. Ledger’s performance impressed me, it’s depressing to know that a (somewhat) young actor who had talent is now no longer amongst us, although perhaps his act will inspire others to..suck less.

Why was his acting good? Well, you couldn’t tell he was acting. Much like Johnny Depp’s performance as Jack Sparrrrer. Not only that, it was generally.. disturbing, his character, that is. His views on the world, which are quite realistic in this age, and his confusion when they were wrong were also interesting points. Yet, it’s not the sort of thing I can explain, you have to see it for yourself.

Moving onto the acting of others, Christian Bale? Not bad at all, although I think he was better suited to the Grammaton Cleric he played in Equilibrium. Morgan Freeman? Same as he always is in every movie, wise old man, they should just credit him as “Morgan Freeman – Himself” he’s literally the same person in every movie I see him in. Err… oh right, that Harvey Dent guy, that was pretty good, his “fall from grace” was somewhat realistic I suppose, but his face was just nasty, IF I SEE THAT GOD DAMN EYE ONE MORE TIME. Everyone else sucked.

Action scenes were somewhat few and far between, but they were pretty good, light humour is ESSENTIAL to superhero fight scenes, I refuse to take it entirely seriously when a guy in spandex is fighting a guy who can shoot lightning out his ass. (Spiderman 2 and 3, Fantastic 4) The fights with The Joker were uh.. well, Batman beats the crap out of him more or less, the “WHAT IS THAT A BAZOOKA” line during the car chase made me smile, as did Ledger’s “I like this job I like this job I like this job”, amongst many others. Music was alright too. So.. complaints? Voice that Bale puts on when voicing Batman, I understand that he tries to sound more ‘animalistic’ and growly to come across intimidating, as well as helping him not feel so moronic in his suit, but it just comes across as forced and distracting. I’M BATMAAAAAAN.

Oh right, I forgot the mobile phone sonar radar spanning the entire city, that was just retarded.

Eeeh.. not really sure what else to go on about. Soul Calibur IV is pretty fun and good, it’s not really a balanced game compared to say, Brawl, but it’s very fun if you like fighting games (which I do). I also love customizing characters for some reason, I’ve spent more time customizing them than playing, I’ve altered several characters to my liking (as making a male character with Xianghua or Setsuka’s moveset looks plain.. stupid), namely, Xinghua (who now has a proper chinese attire and SC sword) Talim (who looks more like a ninja and less like a freak who screams SOAR SOAR WIND SOAR WIND), Amy (with a pirate costume.) and Killik with a pink thong, pink afro, pink staff and pink glasses, with a pink sailor hat. I really love fighting people online with him. I HATE Killik.

The Apprentice? He’s absurdly broken, it’s like taking a force user with a lightsaber and pitting him against people with normal weapons. OH… WAIT.

The end of match beatdowns still exist! That makes me SO happy, I’ve been called many unpleasant words by people after I KO them, walk over to their body and do my custom character (who uses Sieg’s style) down kick, where he basically curb stomps them really fast, whilst their character repeats their death cry clip over and over (sounds FUCKING HILARIOUS) and squirms about on the ground seeking to escape the armoured talon of my characters foot as it crushes their face into the ground. I love it.

I’m having to swap the voice audio from English to Japanese alot, some of the English voices are pretty good, some are AWFUL, but generally I find the Japanese ones sound alot less stupid, they also have better attack.. noises. To quote some awful English ones, Maxi (WUTAH noises and RISING DRAGON OF THE ZODIAC KICK) Talim (oh my GOD SOAR SOAR SOAR WIND). Yet, Ivy and Yoda sound better in English, Sieg is a real tough choice, because I strongly suspect he’s voiced by the guy who voices Viral in TTGL, or, someone more of you will know.. Adult Link in Zelda. THAT’S RIGHT. TEEEEEEEET, TEEEEYAH. In all honesty, I would love a fighting game where everyone is voiced by their correct uh.. country? As in, Mitsurugi, being an Eleven, speaks Japanese, Hilde speaks German (Redhead + german girls seem to go well, Asuka Langley, anyone?) Raphael speaks French, and so on. No American accents.. please. Not that I dislike the American accent (I do) but it just sounds out of place and distracts me, I don’t understand why Ivy has an English accent, but Mitsurugi has an American one, oh well.

Also, why are Japanese characters always god tier in Japanese fighters? Ryu/Ken in SF (I’m not sure of that, but everyone seems to play Ken – who is Japanese, his hair is dyed.) Kasumi, Ryu and Hayate in DOA4, all Japanese.. and Ninjas. Marth in Brawl (okay that’s sort of unfair as Snake, Metaknight and D3 are all better than him and he’s not really Japanese, but shrug) and Mitsurugi in SCIV.. shrug. It may be unintentional, god knows, if I was making DOA5 I would make Eliot one of the strongest, NOT because he’s British. Rather, because he has one of the most functional, refined, and powerful martial arts that’re used in the game. Intention Boxing doesn’t screw about. Him, Gen Fu and Jan Lee would be god tier, Hayate would be high tier, in a killing match, god tier, why? Well, Ein’s karate gives him an extremely “judo” like knowledge of the joints and throws, and well placed strikes, his… ninjitsu gives him ways to kill, against almost any opponent, broken limbs, be they neck or leg, would be inflicted on his foes. In a non killing match, surely a broken leg is just as bad you cry! Not really, in DOA land you can break a featherlight females leg in 4-6 different places, but one second later she’ll get back up and kick you in the face with it. So there.

Woops I sort of mini ranted then, oh well. I think that’s about everything on my mind.

Oh, yeah, Frahlo has FFXI, so today I got my WAR to level 7 (mostly with him) which was sort of slow work due to his MUST PULL HATE FROM TANK obsession. Oh well, having another person who plays it is good, now that Monk is 18, I can move WAR up to 37 with a fully leveled sub happily enough, then? Then I can move on getting Monk to 75, whilst considering any other classes.. such as SAM, DRK and PLD (Samurai, Dark Knight and Paladin) I.. also need to farm silk at some point for some dolla.

Well, that’s more or less everything.

Oh yes, you want to know my thoughts on Bleach, Naruto, Code Geass and Soul Eater, the anime/manga I’m currently watching/reading? Well.. there’s Claymore, Yotsuba and Gintama too, but they DO NOT COUNT OKAY.

Bleach – shitty fights I don’t care about these guys unless they pull a suprise bankai.

Code Geass – Suzaku you douchegargler, Lelouch you cad, Nina you FUCKING CUNTMERCHANT.

Soul Eater – Last weeks filler was AAAAAASSSSSSSS, this weeks looks pretty damn good.

Naruto.. you wanna see Naruto’s reaction? Scroll down.

Scroll down some more.

A little more.

This isn’t really it.

Neither is this.

Next one is it.

Really, I promise.

Okay okay, I’ll stop fooling around.

Here.

Here’s a bonus one, as I like it.
